The Center has five goals:

Acquire and make easily accessible to zoo and aquarium professionals the current body of knowledge on animal welfare.
Conduct and facilitate applied research on captive exotic animal welfare.
Convene important discussions and presentations on captive exotic animal welfare.
Train professionals on captive exotic animal welfare best practices and policies.
Recognize advances in improving captive exotic animal welfare through awards.

Designing and Developing an Animal Welfare Framework for Zoos

August 18-19, 2012

The Center for Zoo Animal Welfare is inviting zoo leaders (directors, curators, animal managers,
veterinarians, and scientists) and animal welfare scientists and leaders to envision and design an animal
welfare framework for zoos. During this process, we are also engaging experts in the fields of human health
care quality improvement and agricultural animal welfare as they offer compelling models that may inform
how to advance zoo animal welfare.
